Year 3 PDF Print E-mail

This term in Year 3 our topic is ‘Blast from the Past’.We will learn about the past of Ponteland, by exploring the surrounding area. As part of this, Year 3 will be comparing maps to highlight change and development, while also looking into map co-ordinates. The children will be hunting out and discovering Ponteland’s very own special historical features, then creating adverts about Ponteland, to attract visitors. Year 3 will be travelling even further back in time by visiting ‘Coria’ (Corbridge’s Roman site) which has it’s own hidden treasures!

As part of ICT this term we will be exploring the use of e-mail; looking at how and when to use email as a form on communication. In addition to this, we will be looking at how to add attachments and send messages to our feeder school ‘Richard Coates Middle School’.

Our Science topic this term is ‘Rocks and Soils’. To allow the children to fully experience rocks, soils and much more, Year 3 will be going on a trip to visit Nenthead Mines in Cumbria. This will be happening on Tuesday 21st September, so remember to hand in your permission slips.

P.E. lessons will be on a Monday this term, so please ensure that children have both their outdoor and indoor kit in school at all times. Thank you.
Also, please remember that children will be asked to remove all jewellery (including earrings) for health and safety purposes.

As part of P.E. the children will be swimming each Thursday (dates still to be confirmed), so please remember to bring your swimming kit to school.  As above, children are not permitted to wear any jewellery and long hair must be tied back during the swimming lesson. If you are free on a Thursday afternoon, we would really appreciate your help to walk the children to Ponteland Leisure Centre.  If you are ‘CRB checked’ please sign up on the helper list in the Year 3 pod. If you would like to help, but are not ‘CRB checked’ please ask for a form in the school reception area.

Please remind your child to change their reading book roughly twice a week.

Reading books are changed first thing in the morning, before registration.

Homework is handed out on a Friday to be returned by the following Tuesday (to allow time for it to be marked).

Spellings are given out on a Monday and are tested on a Friday.
